Health visitors provide a community-based public health nursing service which delivers health promotion in line with the Healthy Child Programme, and targets health inequalities to improve the health outcomes for children and parents.
Babies are seen with follow up as appropriate, either at home or in a clinic setting. Routine developmental reviews of children aged 1 year, and 2-2.5 years are also delivered by the service.
Health visitors work in close partnership with families and other agencies to ensure all children are safeguarded.
Targeted services are available to those with identified additional needs; for example, an enuresis service for over 6-year-olds or those with special needs or vulnerabilities.
Visits are carried out in the family home for new birth visits.
