Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is a tax-free benefit for children under 16 who have a disability and need extra help with personal care or have walking difficulties. DLA is made up of two components: the care component and the mobility component.

The amount you receive depends on the level of help your child needs.

Disabled Child Element of Child Tax Credit

The disabled child element is an additional amount added to your Child Tax Credit if you have a child with a disability. You may qualify if your child receives Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP), or is registered blind.

You can claim Child Tax Credit by updating your existing tax credit claim if you already receive Working Tax Credit.

Carer's Allowance

Carer's Allowance is a benefit for people who spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone with substantial caring needs. You do not have to be related to or live with the person you care for. The current rate is £81.90 per week.

Help with Childcare Costs

Tax-Free Childcare is a government scheme that helps working parents with the cost of childcare. For every £8 you pay into your online childcare account, the government will pay in an extra £2, up to £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for a disabled child).
