Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for Children

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is a benefit that helps with the extra costs of caring for a child under 16 who has a disability or health condition. It is designed to support families with the additional care and mobility needs that come with raising a child with disabilities.

Who can get DLA?

You can apply for DLA if:

  • Your child is under 16 years old.
  • They have a physical or mental health condition or disability that means they need more care, attention, or supervision than other children of the same age.
  • They have difficulty moving around or need help getting around.

What does DLA cover?

DLA has two parts:

  1. Care Component - This helps with the extra care and support your child needs during the day and/or night.
  2. Mobility Component - This helps if your child has trouble moving around or needs guidance and supervision when outdoors.

How much can you get?

The amount you receive depends on how much care and support your child needs. You could receive payments for one or both parts, depending on your child’s needs.

How To Apply

You can apply for DLA online or by filling out a paper form. You’ll need to give details about your child’s condition and the kind of help they need.
