Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is money to help with the extra costs of having a long-term health condition or disability. It’s designed to support people if they need help with everyday tasks or getting around because of their condition.

Who can get PIP?

Your young person may be able to get PIP if they:

  • Are 16 or older.
  • Have a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability.
  • Need help with daily activities (like washing, dressing, or cooking) or moving around.

How does it work?

PIP is not based on income or savings - your young person can still work and get PIP.

There are two parts to PIP:

  1. Daily Living - if you need help with everyday tasks.
  2. Mobility - if you need help getting around.

They may get one or both parts, depending on how their condition affects them.
