All pupils should receive individual careers advice in secondary school, as well as carrying out work experience.
From year 9 onwards, young people with an EHC Plan must discuss what they would like in their adult lives in their annual review. Outcomes related to adult life should be written into their EHC Plan from this point, including employment, living arrangements, community involvement and health and care where appropriate.
A Vocational Profile can be used as a way to explore a young person’s interests and aspirations. It should be a live document to be used as a tool to plan how the young person can get from where they are to the goals that they are aiming for, including curriculum planning, which courses/jobs to apply for and when etc. There are tips on how to do this, and document downloads, here.
