A Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) is a payment that helps cover the cost of making changes to your home so that a child or young person with a disability can live more comfortably and independently. If your child has a physical or mental disability and needs your home adapted to make life easier, a DFG can help cover the cost.

A DFG can help with things like:

•  Installing ramps or widening doorways for wheelchair access.
  
•  Adapting bathrooms to include a walk-in shower or grab rails.
  
•  Fitting stairlifts or through-floor lifts.
  
•  Improving access to rooms and facilities (like lowering kitchen worktops).
  
•  Providing better heating or lighting if needed for health reasons.

You can apply for a DFG if:

• Your child or young person has a disability or health condition that makes it hard for them to move around or use parts of your home.
  
• You need to make changes to your home to help them live more independently.
  
• You live in Croydon and own your home or rent it (private or council housing).

You’ll need to contact Croydon Council to apply for a DFG. An assessment will be carried out to check what changes are needed and how they will help your child.
