Paediatric First Aid

Croydon no longer subsidises any first aid training therefore we recommend that any training undertaken is delivered by a recognised trainer and focuses on face-to-face courses; St John Ambulance, British Red Cross and St Andrew’s First aid are specifically mentioned in the Statutory Framework.

From April 17 all newly qualified Level 2 and 3 practitioners need to have a full Paediatric First Aid certificate or an Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate to count in qualified ratios.

First Aid certificates are valid for 3 years and a qualified first aider must be available to all children at all times e.g. children on an outing need to have access to a qualified first aider as do any children left in the setting which is why most settings do whole staff team training.
