What is a Supported Internship?

Supported Internships are a study programme for young people aged 16-25 with learning difficulties and/or disabilities who have an EHC Plan and who want to work.

They are all about working towards a paid job.

You do most of your learning at work, in an unpaid work placement. This means you can learn on the job with a little time with a college tutor each week.

You have help from a job coach for you and your employer while you learn the role, and for ongoing support as needed.

You will have support to apply for jobs and follow-up after the internship as you look for work or settle into a role.

Supported internships run September-June.

What is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study.

As an apprentice you will:

  • be an employee earning a wage and getting holiday pay.
  • work alongside experienced staff.
  • gain job-specific skills.
  • get time for training and study related to your role.
